Ocean Mistress appears the biggest danger despite drawing wider than ideal, while Ferrari Flair has enough ability to sneak into the placings at rewarding odds. From a betting perspective, Palace Of Arvernia looks one of the stronger bankers on the programme, making this an ideal leg to reduce combinations in the exotic bets.

Race 3 – World Pool Bet With Tote Stakes (Grade 2) – 1200m

One of the more exciting juvenile races on the card. Gimme Some Luck has done little wrong and deserves favouritism after remaining unbeaten, but U S Ranger has looked particularly impressive in the Eastern Cape and could offer slightly better value at the prices. Kudikaran appeals as the each-way runner after consistent performances, while Fish Tales is the wildcard with considerable upside. This could be a race to play forecasts around the two market leaders while keeping Kudikaran onside in trifectas.

Race 4 – Douglas Whyte Stakes (Grade 2) – 1600m

Three fillies dominate betting calculations. Alice B Toklas was unlucky not to win last time and looks ready to make amends, while unbeaten Marchland faces her biggest test but clearly possesses significant ability. Within Reach has promised plenty and should enjoy the step up to the mile. If the market overreacts to the unbeaten record of Marchland, Alice B Toklas may represent the better betting proposition.

Race 5 – Champion Stakes (Grade 1) – 1600m

An outstanding renewal with several potential stars. Moana has the highest Computaform rating and continues to improve, but Vibe Check possesses exceptional speed figures despite the difficult draw. Tudor Rose has the benefit of gate one and has done very little wrong throughout her career. Prayersandpromises also has the profile of a horse capable of taking another step forward. Expect plenty of market movement before the off, making this a race worth monitoring close to start time. If Vibe Check drifts because of the barrier, the value may swing in his favour.

Race 6 – Mercury Sprint (Grade 1) – 1200m

Speed is the name of the game here. Buffalo Storm Cody returns looking to defend his title and remains the benchmark sprinter. Questioning arrives in outstanding form and rates a major danger, while Tenango has unfinished business after finishing second in this race last year. Jet Force produced exceptional speed figures in his latest victory and could easily outrun his odds. This looks an ideal race for Exactas around Buffalo Storm Cody, Questioning and Jet Force, with Tenango impossible to ignore.

Race 7 – World Pool Gold Cup (Grade 3) – 3200m

The feature event promises a fascinating tactical battle. King Pelles attempts to defend his Gold Cup crown after another excellent Durban July performance and remains the horse everyone has to beat. Ahead Of The Facts arrives after a courageous staying victory and is certain to have plenty of supporters, while Master Redoute knows exactly what it takes to win this race. Native Ruler ran with distinction in the Durban July and shapes as one of the better value plays if he stays the extra distance. Enflame remains the dark horse and could develop into a top-class stayer. The market is likely to revolve around King Pelles and Ahead Of The Facts, but Native Ruler and Master Redoute appeal as attractive alternatives for each-way and exotic betting. This is unlikely to be a race won by a rough outsider, so concentrating combinations around the leading five or six runners looks the prudent approach.

Race 8 – HKJC Champions Cup (Grade 1) – 1800m

Arguably the race of the afternoon. Eight On Eighteen has been aimed specifically at this contest and has produced outstanding speed ratings, while See It Again boasts the highest overall ratings and has already shown he belongs at the highest level. The Real Prince is remarkably consistent and should once again be involved at the finish. With three genuine stars meeting, this feels like a race to keep betting simple. See It Again appeals as the value if the betting market leans too heavily towards Eight On Eighteen.

Race 9 – Gold Bracelet (Grade 2) – 2000m

Anotherdanceforme looks ready to continue her winning sequence after posting the strongest figures in the field. Beach Verse has the ability to make life uncomfortable for the favourite, while Rainbow Lorikeet attempts to defend her title despite an awkward draw. Mocha Blend is another capable of running into the placings at attractive odds. This shapes as a race where the favourite deserves respect, but there could be value in backing Rainbow Lorikeet each way if she starts at double-figure odds.

Race 10 – Umngeni Handicap (Listed) – 1000m

The meeting concludes with a competitive sprint where luck in running will be crucial. African Pride has the ratings to justify favouritism, while Chapbook comes off an excellent latest effort and looks a serious threat. Circumbendibus continues to run honest races and should be competitive despite a wide draw. King Of The Gauls possesses enough class to feature if overcoming his difficult barrier. This is a race where taking a wider approach in the Quartet could pay handsome dividends after a long afternoon of racing.

From a betting perspective, Palace Of Arvernia in Race 2 is the standout banker, while the Mercury Sprint, Gold Cup and Champions Cup are the marquee betting races that should produce outstanding World Pool liquidity. King Pelles bids to cement his staying legacy, but Ahead Of The Facts, Native Ruler and Master Redoute all have realistic winning chances if the pace becomes a true staying test.
